Multiple Send Connectors not routing correctly

I am running Exchange 2013 with 2 send connectors.  This server hosts about 30 domains.  I have a primary send connector that routes all domain emails to a smart host.  I added a second send connector to route all email for 1 particular domain to another smart host.

When I send an email from a user in the domain that I want going through the second send connector, it does not.  Instead, it continues to go through the mail send connector.  What am I missing.

I specified the domain as such in the second send connector: companyxyz.com

Should I use @companyxyz.com or *@companyxyz.com

TIA,

"When I send an email from a user in the domain that I want going through the second send connector"

You mean when you send *to* a user in the domain addressed in the address space of that second send connector?

Not FROM right?

No.  When I send and email FROM a user in domain companyxyz.com, it is supposed to be going through the second send connector, but it does not.  It is delivered through the primary send connector that is handling all the other domains.

"If you sending TO a domain, then it will get routed to the connector based on the address space."

This is what I am doing.  I have 2 send connectors.

Connector 1: Scope set to: * (sends to smart host 1)

Connector 2: Scope set to: internalcompany.com (one of my many domains) (sends to smart host 2)

User 1 opens Outlook and sends out an email.  Their email address is user1@internalcompany.com

The email is routed out Send Connector 1, not Send Connector 2 as I need it.

Thanks. Larry

Ok.  My misunderstanding.  Is there an easy way to do source based routing?  I could not get (http://ivasoft.com/routebysender2013.shtml) installed.

So based on your last statement.  If I create a send connector and put "gmail.com" in the scope.  And set it to my second SMART HOST, and internal users that send email to a gmail account will get routed through that second send connector.  Correct?
