Multiple GAL in Exchange 2007
Hi gang here is the scenario. In order to support Multiple domain hosting I've to follow the MSFT documentation to get their support and do it MSFT way following this article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/bb936719(EXCHG.80).aspx This article say I shoud "Companies that want to totally segregate their address lists can do so by removing access to the Default Global Address List and creating two or more address lists or virtual organizations. You can also set up additional functionality to restrict searching via Outlook Web Access to particular organizational units (OUs) or specific address lists using the msExchQueryBaseDN attribute. " I've setup a primary domain name as newyork.com and I want to host jersey.com, miami.com on the sam Exchange infrastructure. At the same I don't want the users from each domain to see each others GAL, AL or any other information. To follow the above supported stuff MSFT I've to create separate AL. One for Newyork.com and other for jersey.com Aso of now I've One Default Global Address List - used by NewYork.com - and also OAB of NewYork.com uses the same GAL. I also have Jesey AL and Jersey GAL - and OAB of Jesery uses the Jesey AL - To follow the above support configuration from MSFT, do i need to creat a new AL for NewYork.com e.g. NewYork AL and then assign this AL to the OAB off New York. If so then - when the user needs to download the new OAB do they just simply goto the outlook and downlaod the address from Tool- Send/Receive- download address book? does it mess up anything with send/receive of emails? How do I set the permissions that only the users from NewYork.com should be able to see this AL.

Hi Vministrator, ->To follow the above support configuration from MSFT, do i need to creat a new AL for NewYork.com e.g. NewYork AL and then assign this AL to the OAB off New York. R: Per my known, it is better create a new GAL&OAB for the domain NewYork.com, the default GAL&OAB would be available for the other host domain. ->If so then - when the user needs to download the new OAB do they just simply goto the outlook and downlaod the address from Tool- Send/Receive- download address book? R: I think there are some good infomation for it int he DOC you refered, you could config the Adpermission for each host virtual domain user, and the user could download their own needed OAB. ->does it mess up anything with send/receive of emails? R: If you set proper permission for the users, there would be work well for all. ->How do I set the permissions that only the users from NewYork.com should be able to see this AL. R: there are some infomation in the DOC, you could refer it, such as: get-addresslist|add-adpermission for special OU user, and the other you could set them deny Related case: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/f3c3a71c-c53f-4668-8495-3291fc33f5b7 Regards!
