Multiple Emails being sent to the same user
I have one user in multiple distro groups on Exchange 2007. Until a week ago if the same message was sent to all of these groups the user only recieved the message once. Now he is getting it for ever group he is part of. I originally thought it could have something do with the sender but it doesnt because the emails are generated out of SharePoint and are only being sent to the Exchange server once. So the problem has to be on the Exchange server end. Thanks, M....

Exchange is intelligent enough to know that the user is a member of multiple recipients, therefore something is changing the message so that Exchange is delivering it more than once. Message tracking is the key tool here. That will show you whether the message is introduced more than once. It could be that the message duplication is happening in a mailbox somewhere, but without message tracking to confirm, it is hard to say. Hi Mitchodell, Form the description of the issue, I suggest you use the Message Tracking tool: 1. Run the Exchange Management console. 2. In the console tree, select Toolbox. 3. In the result pane, select Message Tracing form the Mail flow tools area. 4. And then you will enter the welcome screen. 5. In Message Tracking Parameters, you can select the parameter you want . 6. You can see the related information about the process of the transport of the messages. If you encounter any questions, we can have a further discussion. The documents provided by the following link can help you use the Message Tracking tool efficiently. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124375(EXCHG.80).aspx Best regards, Yang

I just looked through tracking and it is not catching duplicates. When it worked correctly it would show a duplicate step within message tracking. Now it is not. So it is sending out the message as many times as it is queued up.

I did but as I said the emails are generated out of SharePoint so I am not sure what that will accomplish? Anyway, it worked and duplicates are catching when using OWA. No he is not using a PST file.

So message tracking logs are showing no duplicates, but the user is getting duplicates when receiving the message. Could u please try moving the user to another db and see if the issue will occur again. Im suspecting that there was a logical corruption of the db, and thats why the user has started getting the same emails more the once.

The issues doesnt encompasses any specific user that is any of the distro groups. I thought it might have something to do with the messages being sent SMTP from the SharePoint server so I tested sending SMTP emails from another source and the duplicates work. Outlook to groups - No duplicate emails OWA to groups - No duplicate emails SMTP device to groups - No duplicate emails SharePoint to groups - Yes we recieved duplicate emails. UGGGGG>>>>>I think I figured it out. I need to check with our SharePoint developer again but I think they may be parsing out the email and sending it once for each address on the email. If that is the case there are no duplicates for Exchange to catch....
