Multiple DAG in Same Exchange Environment

Hi All,

We have a 6 MBX & 4 CAS environment under one DAG. I have just now created a new DAG (DAG2) in the same environment created a DB mounted it perfectly. After this i moved a test mailbox from DAG to DAG2 hosting another DB. After this movement the account is unable to connect.

Can someone help? Below brief Description:

FrontEnd:

CAS 1,2,3,4

DAG(Prod)

MBX:-

MBX1,2(Copy),3,4(Copy),5,6(Copy)

DAG2(Test)

MB1,2

Hi ,

Based on my knowledge i have given some points please have a look in to it.

We cannot able to have the single node added in multiple DAG'S.I mean an single mailbox server cannot be an member of DAG1 and DAG2.

Mostly peoples will prefer to have two dags when they are going to have the active users on both the primary site as well on the secondary site.So you have to plan based upon your requirement.

Same time i would like to know few things from your side.

1.You have two dag's i.e DAG and DAG2 .So please tell me how nodes on exchange dag ?

2.Then tell me from which mailbox server to which mailbox server the mailbox is been moved ?

3.Then tell me what is the name space you are using at your end for the outlook to connect the exchange servers ?

Hi Below is the scenario:-

DAG(Prod) (4 CAS Nodes & 6 MBX Servers)

CAS Servers: CAS1, CAS2, CAS3 & CAS4

MailBox Servers: MBX1*, MBX2, MBX3*, MBX4, MBX5*, MBX6 (*:-> Active Mailbox database server; each server having 5-7 DB's)

Test DAG(2) (2 MBX Servers, CAS are the same for production)

CAS Servers (I will use the same CAS servers in prod environment for the users to connect)

MailBox Servers: MB1*, MB2 (*:-> Active Mailbox database server; server having 1 Test DB)

The user has been moved from a DB hosted on MBX5 (Prod environment) to MB1 (Test DAG)

Hello,

1) Yes, both the DAG are in same site, both query same DNS, GC & AD. Only that test DAG is in a different VLAN

2) Yes both query same GC since they are in same site

3) I haven't tried this, will create a new mailbox and check if i am able to

4) All the servers can talk to each other perfectly without problem; as mentioned i managed to transfer a mailbox from MBX3 to MBX10

5) No they are not at same patch level

Production Environment are:-

1) MBX & CAS: OS: Windows Server 2012, Exchange 2013 SP1

Test-DAG

1) MBX: OS: 2012 R2, Exchange 2013 CU7

Also, I know you say they're all located in the same site, but just to verify can you run the following command:

Get-ExchangeServer | where {$_.site -notlike "*<ADSITE>*"} | ft name, site -au

If this returns MBX10 or MBX20, then AD thinks they are in different sites and you will need to either:

A.) Add the subnet for that VLAN to your current AD Site  or

B.) Install a CAS Server on the other VLAN.

Hi,

Please do the following test and let us know the result, this will be helpful to narrow down the causes:

1. Can you log on the problematic user via OWA?

2. Create a new user in the new DB in DAG2, does it work properly on Outlook?

Thanks,

Hi,

OWA: The user only gets the authentication dialogue box, after that mailbox never loads

Outlook Client:- Never connects, hangs on searching for exchange server
