Multilevel Headings Not Continuing

I am trying to replicate a feature in Word 2003 to have a document where the Headings are numbered structuraly i.e. headings have a multilevel numbering scheme, and level can be changed using Ctrl-Alt-(Lefor or Right)Arrow

I have achieved this by using the styles tool, right click on the original style, format, numbering, and selecting the multilevel numbering.

Things don't work and the numbering doesn't continue....  <['']>

It seems like each level has it's own number tracking...

1. Paragraph 1 (Modified Heading 1)

1.1 Paragraph 1 Subheading 1 (Modified Heading 2)

1.2 Paragraph 1 Subheading 2 (Modified Heading 2)

1.1.1 Paragraph 1 Subheading 2 Sub-Sub 1 (Modified Heading 2)

Notice in the previous line the discontinued numbering....

2. Paragraph 2 (Modified Heading 1)

1.3 Paragraph 2 Subheading 1 (Modified Heading 2)

Notice in the previous line the discontinued numbering....

1.1.2 Paragraph 1 Subheading 2 Sub-Sub 1 (Modified Heading 2)

Notice in the previous line the discontinued numbering....

Help is needed AND appreciated!

That suggests your Heading 2 multi-level list numbering is not set to restart after Level 1 and, similarly, Heading 3 multi-level list numbering is not set to restart after Level 2.
