Multi-Site DAG with Combined Roles...
Hi. I'm currently looking at a design whereby I have 7 AD sites, with each site requiring access to messaging locally. I am looking at putting together a design based upon the following: Each Site has a single appropriately sized server with Mailbox/Hub/CAS roles. Database Availability Group with 7 members spanning all 7 AD sites Databases configured with a minimum of 3 database copies No redundancy of any role within any single site. This wouldn't be my first choice of design, but specific requirements may dictate something similar if this is a supported configuration. Any clarification of this would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I don't see any problem with the configuration but .. I would placed those server on 2 or 3 sites and make them HA, DAG/Casarray/HUB(Edge)/MX records etc http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638121.aspx If you haven't already read through it, give some time to read themJonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog

Thanks both. I have already sized the servers adequately. In addition, I have already designed an rite resilient DAG configuration with high availability with site at the Hub/CAS role level over 2 sites. As I mentioned, the question I have asked is more of from a supportability point of view than best practice. I know this isn't a typical design, but this may not be suitable for my particular scenario. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't recommend this but.......you know how it is :) Thanks Again.
