Moving the location of the Edge server
Background: I am running Exchange 2010 in native modeI have multiple AD sites connected via WAN I have two sites each with an Exchange CAS, HT, Mailbox serverI have one Edge server in the DMZ at one of the sitesI am planning the move of the primary internet link to the site where the other Exchange server residesThe IP address of the Edge server will change Questions: What is the best way to plan/implement the move of the Edge server? (I understand there will be some down time)Would it be best to bring up a second Edge server at the new site, or simply move the existing one?As for Exchange communications, will I just need to remove the existing Edge subscription and create a new one once the server is at the new site? The IP address of the Edge server will change--will this be a problem? Thanks for any input on how best to plan this move.

I would recommend option 2. Install and make everything ready. Use the edge clone script to have the same configuration of first edge including the edge subscription. Change the MX record/Smart host pointing the new Edge on a week end and monitor how it works. Adjust the send connector for internet emails to use the new edge. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996008.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998622.aspx After successful testing, you can break the edge subscription with old edge and decommission that server.Shaba

Agree with Shabarinath, it is a better choice to bring up a second EDGE server. Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. If you have feedback for TechNet Subscriber Support, contact tnmff@microsoft.com.Frank Wang TechNet Community Support
