Moving from one Exchange 2013 server to another Exchange 2013 Server

Ok,

I have an Exchange 2013 server that I have been tasked with replacing and moving everyone off of to another Exchange 2013 Server.

It is Standard, Version 15..0 (build 775.38) with Mailbox and Client Access roles installed.

How much will the talk to each other once they are on the same domain, will the two servers replicate all setting between the two? Have lots of reading to do. I have upgraded from 2003 to 2007, setup and administered Exchange servers without issue so I do have some knowledge just never went this route before.

I am just wondering if there is any documentation to help with something like this. With the server having public folders and integrated with Unified Messaging I would like to complete this without issue and be prepared as much as possible.

Thank you,

Tom

Apart from given suggestion, You can refer to the following articles:
New-MoveRequest : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351123(v=exchg.150).aspx

Mailbox Moves in Exchange 2013 : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150543(v=exchg.150).aspx

By the way, while need to move users mailboxes from old server to newly created one, you may also try using this automated solution(http://www.exchangemailboxmigration.com/) that could also be a good alternative resource in order to accomplish this job in more appropriate way without losing or tempering any content.

Ok, stupid question.

I know I will need to export the cert and  import it into the new server but I have not moved anything over and people are reporting getting cert errors.

Do I need to get another cert and import it on the new server?

No, you can export the cert on your current server (SSL) and import it. I generally use IIS to do the import and then just assign the services like POP,SMTP,IIS etc. to the cert.

they will get certificate errors for the new server.

But if I export it from the server that has the mailboxes at this time and import it on the new server that does not have the mailboxes yet will the people that are on the main server get this error?

Thank you for you time,

Tom

they will query the new server and get the popup for the cert randomly, installing the cert should be on the top of your list to avoid disruption to your users.

I understand that they will query the new server and get the error but the old server is still in use with mailboxes and such. If I were to export the cert off the old server does it permanently remove the cert from the old server and if it does won't they receive that error from the old server now?

Thank you again,
Tom

Just an update, I found a article that states you can export the cert and import on the second without issue.

Here is the link if interested.
