Moving entire domain to another internet provider
Hey guys,I'm in the process of moving our domain to another building that is serviced by another internet provider. My domain consists of a DC running Windows Server 2003, Exchange Server 2003 and a Backup DC.My main concern is my exchange box, which my users access their email through OWA. I know I need to change my A Record andNS Record. I also need to change my DNS forwarders. Does it matter which order I complete the move? Do I need to physically move the servers and then change my host records or do I change the host records first and then move the servers?Any help or advice would be helpful.Thanks...

Hi,Normally it takes some time before the dns changes have propagated through-out the world. So what we do in most cases is first change the DNS and then move the servers. Ask the provider if it is possible to have a backup mx-record, this will prevend mail to be bounced with the message mailserver unavailable when people send mail to you. When coming back online the mail will be delivered to your mailserver.Regards,Johanblog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

I typically prepare for moves/migrations on a weekend so I will actually change the DNS records Friday evening then proceed with migration on Saturday. By the time the migration is completed later that day the DNS records have propogated and mail will start arriving.MVP Exchange Server

Please also check if there are any other Exchange server/SMTP server which configured the IP address of this server as the smart host server. If thats the case, we need to change the smart host IP on other Exchange servers.
