Moving distribution groups from child domain to root domain
Is there a relatively pain-free method of moving distribution groups from a child domain to the root domain without a loss of membership or email delivery? We've got a child domain whose users have been migrated to an external domain (connected back to Exchange with linked mailboxes), and I need to move their distribution groups and contacts back into the root domain before we decommission the child domain. Has anyone here performed a move like this? Any speed bumps to beware of? This is an Exchange 2010 SP2 organization. Thanks, Mike

You might try using ADMT. Test it first! You will probably have to perform special configuration for the mail properties. Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Use ADMT as ED suggested. However you will need to do some pre-configuration as ADMT out the box does not migrate DLs, only AD security groups. You must configure ADMT and modify the attribute exclusion to include mail enabled attributes. ADMT by default excludes exchange attributes to prevent issues with provisioning mailbox users prior to Exchange 2010 SP1. As far as contacts you ADMT doesn't support, for contacts you can use ldifde.
