Moving Exchange 2003 to new server different OS
Hi, I am moving our exchange server 2003 from an old server to a new one server. The old one is end of life. I have read the KB on How to Move Exchange 2003 to new Hardware Same name. This is how i would like to do this set up. We have OWA and Surfcontrol spam filter set up. My question is instruction #4 states verify new server is running same OS as original. The original server is running Win2000 SP4 the new one will be Win2003 SP2 R2. Will this cause a problem? Will the DB get corrupted? It would seem to me this wouldn't matter however i have ever done this before. Any insight or advice ould be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Allen, I'm not sure I agree. I seem to recall that the database has operating system specific elements. Mjolniir, I would test this in a VM or something before you try it. And if it DOES work, BE SURE TO DEFRAGMENT your database after the move. This will force Exchange to rebuild the database, ensuring its 100% suitable for the system it resides on. Personally I'd just stick to the kb article and once complete upgrade the operating system to windows 2003. This is a supported path, and doing the opposite of what a kb article says would not be a supported path
