Move mailboxes from 2k3 to 2k7 breaks Tasks folder?
Hello, Last evening I moved mailboxes from our 2k3 server over to our new 2k7 server and everything went pretty well with the exception that it seems to have broken everyone's tasks folders. When Outlook loads (I'm using 2007), I have my tasks pane in the lower right corner of Outlook where it usually is but it is stuck on "loading...". My tasks are not there and I cannot enter any new tasks. On another persons Outlook 2003, they are trying to print a calendar and receive the following error message: The taskpad cannot be printed because there is not an associated tasks folder or you do not have permission to view it. Ask the folder owner for permission to view the associated Tasks folder, remove the taskpad from the selected print style, or click OK to print the calendar without the taskpad. Did I miss something simple in the mailbox move? Any ideas on where to look to fix this?

Based on your description, the affected scope is all users. So OL 2007's users can't use task, how about OL 2003's user? ===================== Basic Step for Troubleshooting: 1. Start OL in safe mode <Start->Run->fill in "outlook /safe"> 2. Create new OL profile for user <Control Panel->Mail->Show Profile->New> ===================== If above mentioned steps doesn't work. Then you may try the advanced Step for Troubleshooting **PS: Please backup user's data before start. 1. Use MFCMAPI to delete tasks folder, then Open OL with switch "/resetfolders" . a) Download MFCMAPI from the KB link (see below). b) Run MFCMAPI on a client workstation which has a affected user's profile c) "Session" Menu->"logon and display store table"->choose user's profile from pop-up window->double-click user's mailbox->open root container window->expand "IPM_SUBTREE"->right-click "task" and choose "delete folder" d) Start->Run->fill in "outlook /resetfolders". (This switch will recreate missing Task folder) 2. Here's also another method to ensure the issue. Try to create a new test user's mailbox on ex2k7 and set up the test profile on an affected PC. If tested mailbox were seeing task, it would mean that the issue is related to user's mailbox, not client, 3rd-party service or application. Now, create second test mailbox on ex2k3 this time, migrating to ex2k7, does it get same symptom? If it does, use ExMerge to export data, and delete/recreate old mailbox then import data. a) Run ExMerge from other ex server except ex2k7 (can't be mixed with ex2k7, or you can run from XP, but it'll need to meet more dependencies: install SP2, IIS service, ESM tools, adminpak [see below]) b) Login account must have fully ex admin right, grant "Receive As" and "Send As" permission to that account c) Export data (use ExMerge, remember to select all the checkbox about the data you need to export) d) Delete test mailbox and create new one with same name e) Send a mail to that mailbox (generating new mailbox) f) Import data (use ExMerge) g) Run OL to check the result ExMerge give you a tool to export data, yet EMS cmdlet can also provide export/import function in ex2k7. (Dependency: SP1 or ex2k7 RTM; See below for related parameter and detailed Info) a) The account needs to delegate rights: ex srv admin; local admin for source/target srv; full access to source/target mailbox b) Export mailbox to a PST file c) Delete test mailbox and create new one with same name d) Send a mail to that mailbox (generating new mailbox) e) Import PST to a mailbox (It can't be run on ex2k3 or previous, use ExMerge) f) Run OL to check the result Related KB: Download MFCMAPI (Plus manual) http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?familyid=55FDFFD7-1878-4637-9808-1E21ABB3AE37&displaylang=en Download ExMerge (Plus manual) http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?familyid=429163EC-DCDF-47DC-96DA-1C12D67327D5&displaylang=en Download Adminpak http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c16ae515-c8f4-47ef-a1e4-a8dcbacff8e3&displaylang=en Questions and Answers about the Exmerge Utility http://support.microsoft.com/kb/265441 How to use EMS to export mailbox http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb266964.aspx Related Parameter: Grant full access to source and target mailbox Add-MailboxPermission -Id exportmailboxname -User Adminname -AccessRights FullAccess Export mailbox to a PST file Export-Mailbox -Id mailaddress -PSTFolderPath C:\xxx.pst Import PST file to a mailbox Import-Mailbox -Id mailaddress -PSTFolderPath C:\xxx.pst

Hello, That is correct, both Outlook 03 and 07 users experience this behavior. We've identified that the issue is isolated to users NOT running in cached mode. If we switch the user to cached mode the problem goes away and the tasks folder is handled properly. As soon as we turn cached mode off, the issue repeats itself. I tried the "Basic steps" above and the issue was gone until I turned cached mode back off which immediately re-created the issue. Following the steps further down using ExMerge to create the .pst and then re-importing it back into Exchangesolved the issue for both cached mode and non-cached mode. Thanks a bunch!!
