I'm looking for a procedure to move an existing database from its current Storage Group to a newly created Storage Group. Thanks

Dennis, Presuming you're asking about moving stores in Exchange 2003, you have two choices: Create a new store in a new location and move mailboxes to it. Create the new mailbox database store and move the database to the location (or change the location to where the old database is using ADSIedit.msc) This article describe the process for choice 2 above: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997006.aspx This blog article describes how to move database file locations manually: http://www.0x80004005.net/item/382 Regards, Larry

You can move mailboxes from one SG to another and that way DB is moved ,

i'll tell you what i'm trying to achieve and maybe you can provide an answer. I have a public folder.edb that is stored in a Storage Group with Mailbox EDB's ... I want to move it into it's own storage group for backup reasons. Make sense? Any ideas?

I want to move it into it's own storage group for backup reasons Are you looking for 2 copies of the Public folder Database for Backup reasons , it is not possible on the same server , may be you can create replicas of all Public folder to another server. Or maybe you want to move your Default public folder Database to it's original storage group ( first) ?

You can't. You can't move a database between storage groups. You can move it to another disk on the same server. >Make sense? Any ideas? Replicate the public folders to another server and then remove the PF database from this server. Or move the mailboxes to another stroage group and then delete the empty databases in the SG. That would leave the PF database inits own storage group. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

1) Create a storage group. 2) Create a DB in the newly created storage group. 3) Move the mailbox to the new DB.
