Is there anyway to speed up this process?
Eventually it goes through, but can take up to 2 hours. What is happening during this phase and can I help it along?
Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2013 move CU8 on both sides.
Thanks

It shouldn't take that long.
When one has completed, you need to look at the log file that is created to see what the delay was. It is usually an indication of a problem with the domain replication, particularly if you have two domain controllers or you are going across AD sites.

The move mailbox log generated at the end of the process.

So some more info. Looks like it is hung up on switching to a mailuser on the source. See error below:
Update-MovedMailbox, parameters -MorphToMailUser "True" -NewArchiveMDB "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000" -ArchiveStatus "None" -DomainController "DC2.mydomain.COM" -Identity "mydomain.com/QMMTest/QMM Test1" -RemoteRecipientData "QMM Test1" -ArchiveDomain $null.
