Missing incoming emails
We did some maintenance (eseutil /defrag) on one mailbox store yesterday. After finishing, one of the users in that mailbox store had a mailbox quota applied, whereas it previously had no limit. Following this, she received a message saying that her mailbox had reached its limit so she did some archiving. Today she is saying that there are no messages from yesterday after the start of the mailbox maintenance, and I have confirmed that by looking in her mailbox. Can anyone tell me what happens to incoming messages when 1. that user's mailbox store is offline, as it was during the defrag and 2. What happens to incoming messages if the mailbox has reached its limit. In both cases, is it possible to retrieve the messages? This is in Exchange 2003 BTW. Regards, Phil.

When the store was offline, the messages would queue. If she was over the send limit, the mailbox will still recieve email. If the mailbox was over the send/receive limit, then the messages would bounce back to the sender and will have to be resent.

What happens to incoming messages if the mailbox has reached its limit. there are three types of mailbox limit: Issue Waning, Prohibit Send, Prohibit Send and Receive >In both cases, is it possible to retrieve the messages? If your mailbox reach the Prohitib Send and Receive limitation the user cannot receive mail anymore. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
