Migration to 2013 from 2007 with new names.

We are planning a migration to Exchange 2013 from 2007. We do not currently use OWA externally but publish both EWS and Outlook Anywhere externally through ISA 2006. With 2013 we are not planning to use ISA but just point to the load balancer. We are also planning to use different names than what we use now.

Will I need to have existing name on my certificate as well as the new names?

Are there any other gotchas I might encounter as a result of using different names for Outlook Anywhere and EWS or will autodiscover take care of that for me?

Thanks

You will need to leave the existing name associated with Exchange 2007 because Exchange 2013 redirects some traffic and that name won't be pointing to Exchange 2013 so it doesn't need to be in the certificate.  However, you may consider adding the name to the new certificate so that you can point the name for Exchange 2013 when the Exchange 2007 server is retired.  If it doesn't cost you extra, I would consider doing that.

I've also read that the external hostname for Outlook Anywhere needs to be the same for 2007 and 2013. Does that mean I will need to change the name on the 2007 CAS to the new name?

No, Exchange 2013 will redirect to the Exchange 2007 name.

Perhaps this article will help you understand the process better.

Above suggested steps looks good to get this job done.

However, to gather more information in depth, you may also walk through below given informative resources:

Thanks for the links but I don't see where they address the particular issue of changing names for Outlook Anywhere. I was under the impression that the redirection is only for OWA and EWS, which is why I need the legacy namespace, but that Outlook Anywhere will proxy from CAS 2013 to CAS 2007.

In that case, since the new name will point to 2013 for Outlook Anywhere and it will proxy to 2007, doesn't the name have to be the same? And, if that's the case, wouldn't we need to change the external name on 2007 to match the new name?
