Migration of CAS-HTS to VMs -NLBS
SiteA - Have 2 CAS/HTS roles on the same servers – Physical servers. NLB is in place and all is working well. Have exchange 2003 in a remote location Site B. So there is a RGC connector configured. Goal: Move these 2 physical CAS/HTS servers to a VM environment. Steps: - Modify the RSG Connector to remove the CAS/HTS01 (Will remove one server first) for now. - Remove CAS/HTS01 server from NLB. - Remove the server name from the Send Connector Source Server at organization level in Exchange 2007 - Configure the Web Services URL - Point Outlook to use the new NLB IP Address adn make sure OWA works too for Ex2007 and Ex2003 MBX Servers - Disjoin from domain and Uninstall Exchange Server Are there any other things I consider? - The part I don’t understand is how to remove/modify the name of the CAS/HTS01 from the RSG using the setroutinggroupconnector command? - At what point I switch to the new NLB VIP. Currently everything points to the current NLB IP. This transition has to be flawless. Thank you

Can I not add the two new VMs as additional nodes to this existing Physical Servers NLB. So then I have 4 nodes in the NLB and then slowly I get rid of the 2 physical nodes??? Is this something VM can do for me? My VM guy tells me its not possible???? Advise Please. Thank you.

Hi, To remove the old rerouting group connector, you can use the following command: Get-RoutingGroupConnector |fl You will see all the routing group connector such as, exchang2003-exchange2007,exchange2007-exchange2003 Then run remove-RoutingGroupConnector -identity "xxxx" After migrating, please use new-RoutingGroupConnector to create the two connector: "exchange2003 to exchange 2007" and "exchange 2007 to exchange 2003" More information, please refer the following article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998645(EXCHG.80).aspx Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Thank you Gen for your response. Since I have 2 HTS in the HeadOffice. And the remote Exchange 2003 server has both of those HTS defined in the RSG. I want to remove one HTS for now the one which I am decommissioning and leave the other HTS server in the RSG. So you are saying I have to remove the RSG and then create a new one with that one HTS????? Advsie Please.

You can use set-RoutingGroupConnector comlet to remove the HT from for exchange 2003: set-RoutingGroupConnector -identity "exchang2003-exchange2007" -TargetTransportServers HT.domain.com Please put in the FQDN of the hub server you want to use instead of HT.domain.com Then run get-RoutingGroupConnector -identity "exchang2003-exchange2007" |fl, please check if the TargetTransportServers only have one HT server listed.
