Migration Issues....
Hi, I am facing some problem. I have migrated some of our accounts from abc.com to xyz.com. The migration is intradomain migration, as they are in same forest. Now i renamed the login name from abc00001 to xyz00001. Now I am getting error while trying to configure pop account. The error we are getting is "Please check the email id in your outlook properties". The same email id was running before. Exchange mail accounts are working fine. The problem is only with pop 3 accounts. Secondly the problem i am getting is only when i renamed the login id. Thanks.

Since you have renamed the account. I would ask you to check the Mailbox in ESM. and make sure it is not disconnectedVinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Hi, I think you mean to say InrtaForest. Please verify if the replication of DCs completed. Check if you are able to enumerate the exchange attributes of the user giving parameter -DomainController "DC where you are connecting to". If this does not help then please let us know the details of your environment. Thanks.Vishal Ramnani | MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCSE Messaging | MCTS - Win 2008 Config

Hi, Yes I am able to enumurate the exchange properties. Like i am able to get maibox statistics by using both the domain controllers in the powershell. And as far as replication is concerned then I think that its over 3 days i have migrated the users. And all the replication of the object is taking place. My structure of AD is like this. I have one domain named abc.com. Now i have added another domain like xyz.com into same forest. So abc.com and xyz.com are in same forest. We have installed abc.com and exchange at same time. Now after some time we have added second domain also in the same forest. And we are using same exchange for the xyz.com domain users also. Thanks.

Do you have the same problem if you use another POP3 client software,e.g. Outlook Express or Pegasus?Does the problem disappear if you create a new Outlook profile?---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi, I have created new profile and also tried to do it on different computers. But i get the same message. The user is able to receive the mails without any problem which shows that the mailbox is not disconnected. The problem only while sending. ANd the error message says that "Please check the email id in your outlook properties." which is really very strange. I am able to configure the pop accounts for other migrated users, whose login id I have not changed. The case is only with the login ids which are renamed after migration. Thanks.

If I'm understanding you correctly, there's no problem authenticatingwith the mailbox or with reading messages from the Inbox. That's a"good thing".If the problem lies with /sending/ messages then the issue is theauthentication with the SMTP server (i.e. you cannot /send/ email). Are you configuring the clients to authenticate with the SMTP server? If so, if they /don't/ authenticate (i.e. they use an anonymousconnection) can they send email to addresses within your own emaildomain? It would also be helpful to know what release of Exchange you'reusing. Also, are these POP3 users on your internal LAN or are the connectingfrom the Internet? If it's from the Internet, are there any other SMTPservers or proxies between the client and your Exchange server? Ifthere are, how do they perform authentication? Do they require you toupdate them with the new credentials for the users or do they use LDAPto access your AD?---Rich MatheisenSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi, I am using exchange 2007. Yes they are able to mail to our own domain users. But when they try to mail to yahoo and other domains they get an error saying cannot relay. As far as network and connectivity is concerned. Nothing has changed. And we are able to use pop for other users without any problem. And we are on lan while getting the error. For authentication we use the same server as incoming server. Thanks.

So it's really a problem authenticating with the SMTP server, then. When you created a new profile, did you click the "More settings..."button? And, if you did, what choices did you make on the "OutgoingServer" tab? And, if you set it up to authenticate with the SMTPitdomain\user-id, the user's email address, or the user's UPN value?Which kinda brings up another point -- when you renamed the accounts, did you change the UPN name?---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi,On outgoing tab i selecte "use the same settings as incoming server". And I have renamed the login name by right clicking on the user and selecting rename. Then i changed the user name from abc0001 to xyz0001.Thanks.
