Hi

You will need to raise the domain to 2003, exchange 2003 will continue to work fine with the 2008 R2 DC's

Hi all, I have an environment with the following

2 servers Exchange 2003 (6576381) on Windows Server 2003 R2
My domain is Windows Server 2003 R2 DCs
Forest Functional Level "2000 Mixto"
Functional Level Domain "2000 Mixto"

I will migrate to Exchange 2010, which would be the first steps?

1. Raise Forest Functional Level Domain and Windows Server 2003
2. Insert two new Domain Controllers with Windows Server 2008 R2
3. Install and start migrating to Exchange 2010

My question is if I install the DCs to Windows Server 2008 R2 and supports Exchange Server 2003 6576381

Apart from above suggestion, I would like to refer you on Exchange server deployment assistant that is available from Microsoft and provides step-wise instructions by checking all the required prerequisites to accomplish this task more easily : https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dn756393.aspx

In addition, you could also check this automated solution (http://www.exchangemailboxmigration.com/) that helps to get this job done in hassle-free manner without any interruption.

Hi,

Before we migrate from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, we need to do the following things:

  • Raise Forest Functional Level and Domain Functional Level to Exchange 2003
  • Exchange 2003 Server has to be in Native mode
  • Raise DCs to Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 R2 supports Exchange server 2003.
  • Then install Exchange 2010 to Windows Server 2008 R2.

Here is a document about Understanding Upgrade from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010

Best Regards.
