Migration 2007 to 2013: Use new domain on 2013 instead of legacy domain?
Hello, We're currently using an Exchange 2007 server with all roles installed on this one server. All Exchange url's like owa, autodiscover, ews,... point to mail.company.eu . Now in the migration path after installing the new 2013 server you should create a legacy domain and change your 2007 server to use this url instead. But we also own the domain company.com and we rather starting using this one instead. (It's already set as primary SMTP domain on our 2007 server.) Can we just configure our new 2013 to use the .com domain and leave the exisiting .eu domain as legacy domain without changing our 2007 server settings?

Hi There is no technical problem with doing this, the "legacy" domain concept is just so that all the inbound traffic goes to Exchange 2013 and it has a way to reference previous version servers in the organisation. Steve

Can we just configure our new 2013 to use the .com domain and leave the exisiting .eu domain as legacy domain without changing our 2007 server settings? You can as long as you don't mind users hitting the "wrong" URL due to Favorites they have saved. You will need to educate them to go to the new .com address.Senior Program Manager, Exchange Customer Advisory Team NOTICE: My posts are provided AS IS without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability and/or fitness for a particular purpose.
