Migrating users from EX2007 to EX2010 OAB does not update
I am testing a migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 and we are having a weird issue where migrated users OAB is not updating. When you go to send receive and download OAB in outlook 2010 it shows "global address list" for migrated users but users with new profiles show "Offline address book list." I can fix the problem of users not seeing new users by deleting their outlook profile and having it automatically create a new one but this is not a fix I want to even try to implement. As a test I manually assigned the address list to the DB these users were in but that made not difference and i'm wondering if that was even needed. Pretty much everything else is working except outlook anywhere which I am fairly certain is our certificate. All of my users are 2007 or 2010 outlook so we do not use public folders for the OAB.

When Outlook is in cached mode, recommended especially when using Outlook Anywhere, then users look at the offline address book. Four things have to happen--and in this order--before recipients show up in the GAL in Outlook with cached mode, i.e., the Offline Address Book: 1. The object or change must replicate to the domain controller the OAB generating server uses. 2. The offline address book must be generated. This is a scheduled activity. 3. The OAB system public folder must replicate to the public folder server the user's Outlook 2003 and earlier is using, or the File Replication Service must replicate the OAB files to the CAS the user's Outlook 2007 or 2010 is using. 4. Outlook must synchronize itself with the offline address book. This is directed by Outlook. http://theessentialexchange.com/blogs/michael/archive/2007/11/13/forcing-an-offline-address-book-to-get-updated.aspx If the OAB isn't being updated properly, it's time to troubleshoot that. Thanks but this is not an issue of users not showing up in the OAB it is an issue of the OAB not updating on the users computer after a migration from EX2007 to EX2010 server. If I try to manually update the OAB I get an object not found error but this is because it is looking at the wrong OAB. There is a new OAB generated and in place on the EX2010 server and if I create a new profile on a user who has been moved they see newly added to AD users just fine. You can see the change in outlook by going to send receive and download OAB in outlook 2010 it shows "global address list" as the only selectable address book to download for migrated users but users with new profiles show "Offline address book list." As I said this is a new OAB created in EX2010 that it is not picking up. IF this won't work and I need to use the old one I can probably live with that but it seems it should pick the new one up. As it stands it was not handing out the old one either when it was set to default and stored on the EX2007 server but this might change once I put the EX2010 server in front of the 2007. Right now the 2007 is primary while we test. If I need to do something different let me know.

You only need one OAB. I don't know what you mean by "picking up". Have you looked at: Get-MailboxDatabase | fl Name,OfflineAddressBook ? Do the mailbox databases point to the correct OAB?Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi, First, I would like to confirm the following questions: 1. Does the issue occur on each migrated user account or certain one? 2. Do you mean that the problematic user can see the update OAB after rebuilding the Outlook profile and the new created objects only list in "Offline address book list."? At this stage, I suggest you test E-mail AutoConfiguration before rebuilding the profile and after rebuilding the profile. Then, please check whether there is any difference between them. 1. While Outlook is running, hold down the CTRL key, right-click the Outlook icon in the notification area, and then select Test E-mail AutoConfiguration. 2. Verify that the correct e-mail address is in the box next to E-mail Address. 3. Clear the check boxes next to Use Guessmart and Secure Guessmart Authentication. 4. On the Test E-mail AutoConfiguration page, verify that the check box next to Use AutoDiscover is selected, and then click the Test button. 5. Then, please check whether there is any difference in Result tab and post the Result tab here for research. Also, please run Get-OfflineAddressBook | Fl command and post the result. Thanks. So far it appears to be every migrated account Yes the users can see the updated OAB after creating them a new outlook profile. As for the "offline address book list" thats just the name I see when a user has been migrated to exchange 2010 and a new profile has been created. Prior to a new profile it is the "global address book list" I can't copy and paste the autodiscover lists it won't let me copy it. I have copied the 2 url lines for the OAB below. I notice that one is https and one is http. Not sure why and that might be part of the issue.. old profile after migration <OABUrl>https://exchange.pacific.com/OAB/9b8d6b36-0fc1-45e0-9dd2-2b8fefe179b2/</OABUrl> newly created profile <OABUrl>http://exchange.pacific.local/OAB/9b8d6b36-0fc1-45e0-9dd2-2b8fefe179b2/</OABUrl> Get-OfflineAddressBook output is below. Hi, Is Exchange 2007 removed completely? At this stage, I suggest you temporarily disable firewall and antivirus program on the problematic machine to check the result. Also, try to repair the migrated user's profile. If the issue persists, please type the following cmdlet and post the result here. Get-OabVirtualDirectory | fl Get-MailboxDatabase | fl name,OfflineAddressBook Get-ClientAccessServer | fl Thanks. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen Outlook profiles be sticky. Instead of creating a new profile, you might try refreshing the profile by deleting the last letter of their name and clicking Check Name. That doesn't cause the user to have to reconfigure their settings, saving them a hassle if it fixes the problem. Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

We swapped servers tonight so the 2010 server is now in front and it looks like this might be working again but i'm not positive yet. It worked with already migrated users I will need to try migrating a couple users on Monday.
