Migrating mailboxes from Domino Lotus Notes 8 to Microsoft exchange 2007
Hi all, We want to copy/migrate user mailboxes from Domino Lotus Notes 8 to Microsoft exchange 2007 and to find somehow the away to link/add domino mailbox to the actual user’s mailbox in exchange 2007, because we want Domino to be out of service. Exchange has been installed on load balancing environment (2 HUB/CAS 2007 servers) and clustered mailboxes (2 mailboxes) all servers is running Windows 2008. We have installed Microsoft Transporter for Lotus Domino (Microsoft Transporter Suite for Lotus Domino ) and configured connector to one of our HUB/CAS server. As it is required by MS Transporter first we migrated user account from Domino to Active directory (we did without selecting create mailbox option in migrating user steps), and the migrated user has been seen in our active directory. Then, the second step, we migrated Domino mailbox of the migrated user in the above step, and we got completed successfully message (Message after Summary: 1 item(s). 1 succeeded, 0 failed) (in this step we selected one of our HUB/CAS server & one of our Mailboxes database). Issue 1: When we look for the new migrated mailboxes in our exchange server consol in mailboxes list (which lists Recipient type of “User Mailbox”) , we didn’t find mailbox, and when we searched for user account in the mailboxes list we found mailbox with Recipient type of “Mail User”, it seems our exchange didn’t recognized mailbox. BTW, we did clean Mailbox database, and we did active replication for our active directory. The owner of this account got message after he logged in got there is no mail box via OWA. Please advice? Issue 2: If we migrated domino mailboxes successfully, we will have two user accounts & two mailboxes for the same user (mailbox migrated from domino and mailbox from exchange), how can we allow user to have one mailbox (mainly the exchange mailbox) and has folder inside it to list domino emails? Any help will be highly appertained. Regards

Issue 1: Have you tried to migrate a user with the create mailbox option selected and then migrate the mailbox from Domino to Exchange? Issue 2: I'm not sure that I understand your question. Are you asking if you will have two mailboxes in Exchange server? Martin Sundström | Microsoft Certified Trainer | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010 | http://msundis.wordpress.com

Are you asking if you will have two mailboxes in Exchange server? Martin Sundström | Microsoft Certified Trainer | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010 | http://msundis.wordpress.com Thanks Martin, Issue 1: Yes , I did first migrate user with create mailbox option and then I migrated the mailbox from domino to exchange, but the when I logged on I found the inbox folder is empty. Then I tried to migrate user withOUT create mailbox ,then I migrated the mailbox from domino to exchange , the migrated mailbox doesn't appear in the mailbox node of exchange console , when I search for the migrated user in the mailbox node , i found the mailbox has recipient type of Mail User not as the other mail boxes ( User Mailbox ). Just want to mention that when I migrated user from domino to exchange i got the below warning: Summary: 1 item(s). 1 succeeded, 0 failed. Elapsed time: 00:00:01 Usre1234 Completed Warning: Master template not found. Defaulting to 'StdR4PublicAddressBook' template. Issue2: Yes, our users already have mailbox in exchange, and we want somehow to allow them to see the migrated domino mailbox from their exchange mailbox. First mailbox was created on exchange when our system administrator has created the user on Active directory, the second mailbox will be created and assigned after the Domino migration process is done to temp user while we find away to allow actual user to see access migrated mailbox. Issue 2: So the users being migrated has already got new accounts and mailboxes in your AD environment? And when you perform the migration you create new users and mailboxes for the migrated data?Martin Sundstrm | Microsoft Certified Trainer | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010 | http://msundis.wordpress.com

Ok, so why don't you migrare the domino mailbox directly in to the existing mailboxes in Exhange? Then you won't have to deal with mutiple mailboxes, I'm guessing that you want to do some sort of merge of the mailboxes when youre done migrating? Or is it ok for the users to have a second mailbox with old data?Martin Sundstrm | Microsoft Certified Trainer | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010 | http://msundis.wordpress.com

I'm not sure on the merge, you must test the command below before performing it on a user in production: Move-Mailbox -Identity john -TargetDatabase "Mailbox Database" -AllowMerge $true Regarding migrating user into exchange mailboxes, you should be ok with migrating in to existing mailboxes. This is what the transporter does by default since the mailbox is created before the migration. Then again, try this on a test user before performing it on a user in production so it really matches you preferences.Martin Sundstrm | Microsoft Certified Trainer | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010 | http://msundis.wordpress.com
