Migrate path away from EBS

Hello Everyone,

We are currently running Essential Business Server 2008. We need to move from EBS to ala carte licensing. We really need to get a new exchange server installed, as our current constantly gives us a lot of problems. It's sort of a mess and we are in a chicken-before-the-egg in trying to determine if we should do active directory or exchange first. These are my questions...

1). I know that there are migration tools to manage the movement of mailboxes and the repointing of outlook, DNS, etc. Will those work with EBS?

2). I'd rather concentrate on Exchange at this point and not worry about removing EBS. Will a standard installation of Exchange work in an EBS environment? I don't expect for the EBS tools to be applicable to the new exchange. I only need it to exist in active directory for authentication purposes. I'm worried that EBS is going to see it and some licensing enforcement is going to kick in and everything is going to freak out.

3). Are there any documents that deal specifically with this?

Thank you
