Migrate mailboxes over WAN link

Hi

Does anyone have any experience moving mailboxes over a WAN link using new-Moverequest?

We need to move about 1000 mailboxes from the US to the Netherlands over a 100Mb line with an average Roundtrip latency of 150-200 ms ? We need to move 9TB of maildata over a 100Mb link. Is this feasible? I dont think were allowed to copy alle mail data on diks and fly them in.

Thanks for the feedback.
Regards.

Hi peter,

Thank you for your question.

If we didnt use the disk, we just move it by WAN, but there are something we could consider:

  1.        Move 1G mailbox or 10G mailbox to evaluate time which was used
  2.        Move mailbox base on OU or department
  3.        Suggest that move mailbox out of production hours

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Dear

Do you have any numbers? What was your latency, total size of all mailboxes and the total amount of time you needed to move your 16.000 mailboxes?

It seems that the bandwidth is not that important, but the latency. The transfer rate = window size * latency. 64 Kb/s * 0.08 (80 ms latency) = only 6.2 Mb/ second, regardless the bandwidth.

Thanks for the feedback
Regards.
Peter
