Microsoft Outlook prompts for another users password

Hello

On a Windows 7-machine with Office 2010 Home & Business a domain user are logged on its Outlook with his Exchange-account, which we have in-house.

Suddenly, a pop-up shows up in the messagefield in the right corner:

"Enter the password to use Microsoft Outlook with the account otheruser@domain.com. Click here to enter the password."

So it asks for a password for another users in the domain - out of absolutly nowhere.

One month later it does exatly the same, just with different user. It has therefore now asked for the passwords of to other users, than the user itselft.

How can this be?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Morten,

Outlook stores the credential information in Windows Credential Manager. We may check if there is something wrong in the credential caches.

Please go to Control Panel and open Credential Manager, and then check if you can see any entry related to the prompted account. If any, remove the entry and restart Outlook to see the result. To do this, please follow:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Credential Manager.

Note If View by is set to Category, click User Accounts first, and then click Credential Manager.

2. Locate the set of credentials that has Outlook in the name.

3. Click the name to expand the set of credentials, and then click Remove from Vault.

4. Repeat step 3 for any additional sets of credentials that have the word Outlook in the name.

If above doesn't work, we may also try creating a new mail profile in Control Panel and then reconfigure the email account in the new profile to see the result.

Please let me know the result.

Hi Steve

Thank you for your answer.

I have now looked up the Credential Manager on the computer, but there is nothing related to Outlook - not even the users own password, which suprises me.

I can't put a picture in because my account isn't verifyed, but the only thing in the Credential Manager is virtualapp/didlogical, and that's it.

I havn't tried to create a new profile yet, but is that your advise for now, or what do you think I should do?

Thank you for your time, I appreciate is.

Kind regards.

Have you checked File-->Account Settings-->Account settings and Controlpanel-->Mail-->profiles to check if there is anything there related to the user Outlook asks for? mailboxes, profiles or something like that?
