Microsoft Office 2013 Pro Plus with VLS MAK activation issues

Hi,

I was posting this on Microsoft Community Forum and got told to move this question to this IT PRO site.

I just wonder if there are any reports for any recent Windows updates Patch Tuesday that could cause the Microsoft Office 2013 Pro plus with VLS MAK key to keep deactivating the program.

Our company is licensed for 1000 users and we are not even using all up yet. We use MAK activation instead of KMS. Recently, many of our users around 50 users out of hundreds across the company at different offices are experiencing the problem where Office would say "Product Activation failed" even though it was activated months to years ago. When they click to activate the license, it would return with error that it can't be activated. Sometimes, a computer restart will temporarily solve the problem but it will come back in about a few days to a week later.

I tested some fixes for one user by repairing the office, it failed. Then I found this article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2528753 and ran the suggested command and then run the repair again, it worked. Or I thought it did. It was good for about 2 weeks then he got the same problem again.

Now, we recently just renew our license agreement and got new license ID but that shouldn't affect the already activated programs. Can anyone here please confirm?

Thanks,

AC

I haven't received such reports stating that recent updates are causing this issue.

Is there any difference between those 50 computers and other normal computers? Such as some particular programs?

Is "Product Activation failed" the entire error message you got? If not, would you please provide the entire error message text to us so that we can understand the issue more efficiently?

In addition, we can try using the volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT) to view the licensing status of the problematic computer and use it to reactivate those 50 computers to see the result. For your reference:

This continues to be an issue and is getting widely spread across the company and it doesn't happen to just VLS key; It's also happening to users that purchased the Office Pro Plus 2013 through the employee Home User Program. The reported user mentioned that the issue started right after the recent Windows updates on her home/personal computer. No reporting so far on bad updates?
