Microsoft Office 2013 Not Compatible with Windows 8.1??
I have a customer that I recently installed Office 2013 onto their brand new Asus Q550. The entire setup went very well but after 2 hours of use with Outlook, the service just stopped. Curiously I went to Word, same thing! Anyone else having this problem on their 8.1 device? If so.. Whats the fix???

Office 2013 should be compatible with windows 8.1.

Since your Office got stopped working, we recommend you start Office in safe mode to check the issue:

In addition, you might also check the following link and perform the steps in it to troubleshoot your problem.

What type of email account and do you get any error messages?

I use office pro 2013 with Windows 8.0 and it works fine.  I upgraded to 8.1 and everything started going wrong.   Trying to repair only uninstalled everything.  Even after I did a clean reinstall it still did not work properly.  Once I rolled my computer back to 8.0, everything worked fine again.

I don't think 8.1 and Office 2013 are compatible.  I hope they fix this soon, I want the added security protection of 8.1 since I am always online

I too have same problem. I cant run office 365 on my laptop and I was able to install it perfectly on a windows 8 laptop and mine is windows8.1 and it tells me network problems but have full signal etc. when I go to downloads and click on the application to run it asks for permition to allow changes as usual and as I click yes it attempts to load but then stops (nothing happens)

I am running Office 2013 Professional Plus and Windows 8.1 Enterprise vers 6.3 build 9600.  When I right click on a cell in Excel, it takes a minute or so for the menu to open.  I'm frozen until then. I have tried turning off anything within Excel that goes out to the Internet, and closed out Reader and a few other applications that might be going out. There doesn't seem to be any updates available (although I am testing this for my company and we have auto update turned off) and i don't see anyone else with this issue.  Any ideas?

I *was* having this same problem and ran through all of the proposed fixes on various sites and KBs without success.  UNTIL LAST WEEK.  After I installed the raft of Windows Updates that were released last Tuesday 8-July-2014 the problem went away.

Unfortunately I have no specific details to give you, but my Outlook 2013 and my Office 365 personal account have been up and running without incident for 6 days now.  I'll update this post if I'm able to pinpoint what actually fixed my problem or whether or not it was a specific Windows\Office Update from last week.

Update: My stuff: Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with 4GB RAM, Office 365 Home - OneDrive +50

I was just having the same issue with Windows 8.1.  Every Microsoft Office 2013 application would not work.  The program would initially load, but once a document was loaded or a new document started the program would stop working and shut down.

I tried all of the above, with no success.  Ultimately, the problem was caused by "Add-Ins" and in my case a specific once call "Abbyy Fine Reader 9.0 Sprint".  Once this add-in was removed the problem went away and everything is fine now.

Here is a support page to remove add-ins from Office:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/enable-or-disable-add-ins-in-office-programs-HA010034127.aspx

You have to first load the program in the safe mode.  Better yet, if you see this program installed on your computer, start by uninstalling Abbyy Fine Reader first and reboot, and that may save you these other steps.  If unsure, disable all add-ins that you do not use (probably most of them) since any could be the problem.

This worked for me, thank you very much!

Hello,

I have been with Microsoft tech support and connected remotely with our machine. After 2 hours of trying, she finally gave up and asked me if I am already an Assured member? This way they can help me thoroughly with my problem. I have to pay an amout, so they can help me fix it? I just told her that I will just have to fix it myself.

These computers are brand new and we bought 5 licenses of Office 2013. It only happened when I updated from Windows 8 to 8.1. It was working fine with Windows 8, but when I updated the machines to 8.1 it stopped all our MS Office 2013 to work.

After a thorough research I was able to fix the problem with all our machines. This problem has been seen to be caused by certain versions of the third-party DisplayLink User Mode Driver (dlumd32.dll), specifically versions of the dlumd32.dll file lower than 8.7.x.

You need to download and install the latest Display Link Software at http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php
