Microsoft Filter Pack on Windows 2008?
Does the Microsoft Filter Pack need to be installed on windows 2008 for Exchange 2007? All the references I see are for 2003. The EBPA says it should be installed. However, the EBPA finds some other things that are only necessary on 2003 as well. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks,SteveSteve

I realize that it is not listed as a prereq. However, the EXBPA flags the issue. Why is that? Is it just a bug in the EXBPA? Have you seen this in the EXBPA?Thanks,SteveSteve

Hi Steve, Would you please let me know whether you received warning like below when running EXBPA: Warning: Microsoft Filter Pack not installed Server XXXX. Microsoft Filter Pack is not found on server XXXXX. It is recommended that you install Microsoft Filter Pack on server XXXX so that Exchange Search can index and search Microsoft Office 2007 attachments. I would like to explain that the Microsoft Filter Pack is recommended to be installed but not required. The filter pack allows the search indexer to search for MSOffice 2007 attachments. You could download the filter pack from following site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=60C92A37-719C-4077-B5C6-CAC34F4227CC&displaylang=en More Information: http://blogs.msexchange.org/silva/2008/10/11/ifilter-for-exchange-server-2007/ Mike

Yes, that is the warning that I receive. The filter pack link that you point out was the one that I was reviewing before I posted here. This link does not mention 2008. Thus my question is if I should ignore the fact that the article does not mention 2008 and follow the steps anyway or are there different instructions for 2008 server?I also started wondering about this since there are other items mentioned by the EXBPA that are not relevent to exchange 2007 on 2008.Thanks,SteveSteve

Hi Steve, I would like to explain that the Microsoft Filter Pack can be installed Windows Server 2008. For your reference: Enhance Windows Search with the Free Microsoft Filter Pack http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd370592.aspx From the article: The Filter Pack is available for x86 and x64 versions of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. Therefore, I would like to explain that you could download the Microsoft Filter Pack from the link and registering Filter Pack IFilters with Exchange Server 2007 according to following link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;944516Mike
