Microsoft Exchange Transport Service is stopped - I can't start it - Exchange 2007 SP2
Today the MSExchangeTransport service was stopped.
There is no error in the event viewer.
I used to have this service running under the 'local system' account because in the past it was running with the 'Network Service' but it also stopped.
My Windows is 2008 x64 SP2
Exchange Server is 2007 SP2.
I haven't installed updates recently.
Any thoughts?

So no events get generated in the Application log if you try to manually start the service? That seems weird.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Can you tell me what the NTFS permissions are on C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\data folder is?
Might want to try renameing the "data" folder mentioned above to data_old, create a new data folder and restart the service. I believe the Transport service should be running as Network ServiceTim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

That's right, no events are generated in the Application log if I try to manually start the service.
Only 2 events in the system log:
Event ID : 7000
Type : Error
Message : The service Microsoft Exchange Transport service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Event ID : 7009
Type : Error
Message : Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Microsoft Exchange Transport service to connect.

I got it!
I applied this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944752/en-us
BTW: My server has Internet connectivity, but, for some reason its very slow when I try to navigate. OWA users haven't complaint.

I have done that before (renaming the data folder and restart the service). I did this because I was trying to troubleshoot why the transport service wasn't unable to start under Network Service account. But, it didn't work.
The NTFS permissions are (I gave full control to the network service long time ago):
System - Full control
Network Service - Full control
Server\Administrators - Full control
Another detail is that I need to disable the Windows firewall to be able to start the Transport Service. Maybe because the Exchange Server is a little slow, and without the firewall the speed of the server increases and the Transport Service needs
less time to start, without reaching a timeout.
