Microsoft Exchange Shell can't connect to the server.

So first off thanks for any help that you can offer.

So I am working on a new server setup. After the basic setup that was required to get the domain setup and setup some profiles I proceeded to download and install Exchange 2010 onto the server. Because this was my first install I managed to get most of the prerequisites before the install, although depending on the site I used to find the prerequisites I may have missed a few. I was able to get into the console after that, but no data was view able, and I couldn't setup the exchange server. ( I kept getting a MMC snapin failure) This lead to me deleting Server 2010 and moving to server 2013.

I listed all of that in case it became relevant. I fulfilled all of the Microsoft stated Prerequisites from the 2013 setup guidelines ( I can provide a link later if that would be helpful) after the install which had little to no problem, I attempted to get into the Exchange Management Shell, ( I had become more familiar with that when deleting Server 2010). Instead of connecting it simply kept running and running until Red lettering showed up.

The lettering says : Verbose: Connecting to <Servername> (this is yellow the rest is red)

New-PSSession: [<servername>] Connecting to remote server <servername> failed with the following error message :WinRM cannot complete the operation. Verify that the specified computer name is valid, that the computer is accessible over the network, and that a firewall exception for the WinRm service is enabled and allows access from this computer. By default, the WinRM firewall exception for public profiles limits access to remote computers within the same local subnet. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.

At line:1 char:1

+New-PSSession -ConnectionURI "$connectionUri" -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange ...

+ CategoryInfo  :OpenError:  <System.Management...RemoteRunspace> [New-PSSession], PSRemotingTransportException

+FullyQualifiedErrorId : WinRMOperationTimeout,PSSessionOpenFailed

It then tries to connect to the server again for a few times until it asks me to reenter the server name to try one last time. Afterwards if just gives up and gives me a normal Powershell prompt. I have tried WinRm qc and it says "WinRM service is already running on this machine. WinRm is already set up for remote management on this computer.

At this point I have no idea what to do from here. I tried looking online and nothing showed up, I called Dell ( the server manufacturer) and they suggested upgrading to CU7 ( I was already on CU6) which I did, and this didn't fix the problem. He said it might be related to the kerbauth failing but was unable to give me more information than that. Hopefully someone can help me fix it, and if not can give me some steps for a re-install to make sure it actually works.

Thanks again for any help available.

Rename or delete folders in profile "%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Exchange\RemotePowerShell"

I removed that from the folder, and nothing has changed. I am going to try to reboot first right now but the EMS is still not loading.

Hi,

From your description, I would like to clarify the following things for troubleshooting:

1. Make sure that all services Exchange server needed are running normally.

2. Ensure that the computer is configured to allow for remote Server Manager connections:
Start Server Manager -> Configure Server Manager Remote Management -> click Enable remote management of this server from other computers -> ok

Hope this can be helpful to you.

Best regards,

How would I check to see if the Exchange servers are running normal?

I am not seeing the Configure Server Manager Remote Management on the Server Manager.

Also this is all the same server, should I be working from a client computer when trying to start the EMS?

Thanks for your help.

So I found the services area and it looks normal-ish. I am not really sure what services should or shouldn't be running. But for the most part nothing looked out of place.

I did find with some more tinkering and searching online that I should be checking winRM which I tried with the commands : winRM get winRM/config

Unfortunately it ended with a access is denied.

The full message was :

WSManFault

Message

ProviderFault

WSManFault

Message = Access is denied.

Error number:  -2147024891    0x800700005

Access is Denied.

Which seems to me like a problem. I have done some research but can't find how to change this or figure out where it is being blocked. I am assuming it is a permission problem but I could be wrong.

Thanks again for anyone's help.

Well I am sure that most of that stuff is still a problem and I will be back in the future just wanted to let you guys know that I found a way to connect.

Using this site : http://blogs.msdn.com/b/gaurav/archive/2013/10/23/the-module-dll-c-program-files-microsoft-exchange-server-v14-bin-kerbauth-dll-failed-to-load-the-data-is-the-error.aspx

Which I hope I am fine to post here. I found the information I needed to change the kerbauth.dll file in the right way so it was sent to the right file.

Thanks again for everyone who helped out.
