Microsoft.Exchange.Directory.Topol ogyService listening on port 890

Hello,

I'm hardening  our Exchange servers and one of IS requirement is description of all port where applications are listening.

I did found that  Microsoft.Exchange.Directory.TopologyService listening on port 890. Does it really necessary? How i can disable this? Or at least is there are someone who knows why it's needed?

Yes, it's definitely necessary

Yes it is needed.   Adtopology is the one that all other services are dependent on and is what integrates into Active Directory.

Hi Oleg,

From your description, I would like to clarify the following thing:

If the Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service is stopped, most Exchange services are unable to start. It is import for Exchange server. Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology is listening port 890, it is a normal behavior.

Thank you for the response. Maybe you have a link on Technet where this service described in deep? Suggest, that this service communicating to the DC, but i thought that it just initiating requests not listening to. But let's say, what will happens if i disable this port by firewall, so DC will not be able to communicate to this port on my Exchange?
