Mialbox server hard disk is almost full
We have Exchange 2007 CCR setup in our company. We have created disk from storage to store our mailbox databases. In one of the drive there is only 7% of space is available now. After backup runs logs are purging successfullyTo increase some space in this drive i moved few of the heavy users to another storage group and wait for the system online defragmentation. But still drive is showing 6 to 7 % free. I am affraid if we continue like this store will be dismounted and start the issues. Any suggesssion would be appreaciated to reduce the size of this store. Online defragmentation recovers internal space in the store but does not reduce the size of an .edb database file. To reduce the size of the .edb database file, you must perform an offline defragmentation with the Eseutil.exe utility (the eseutil /d command) against the .edb database file. But this can be quite time-consuming and is not the recommended approach.Instead you should move all the mailboxes from the database to a new database, delete the old database and recreate it, then move some or all of the mailboxes back. Is offline defragmentation considered regular Exchange maintenance?http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2004/07/08/177574.aspx MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M | Small Business Specialist

Yes you are right. I don't hink so Offline defragmentation will reduce the edb space. But any specific reason why it is not free up the space after moving bunch of mailboxes to new database? As you mentioned i may move all the mailboxes to new mailboxes if i couldn't fine any solution.Any other suggestion?

The main purpose of online defragmentation is to rearrange data, so you get a much more efficient database, with data stored optimally, thereby reducing disk I/O. White space becomes more contiguous. But the external size of the database is not reduced. You have two options:(1) offline defragmentation(2) Move-Mailbox ESEUTIL /D does its work at around 20 GB/hour, of course your mileage may vary depending on CPU and disk speed. Move-Mailbox does only affect the users that are moved while they are moved. So this spells less downtime.MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M | Small Business Specialist
