Messaging Records Management / Retention Policy - How do I get a detailed report of what was deleted?
Hello: Is there a way, in Exchange 2010 SP1, to get a report of which mailboxes had items deleted by a retention policy, and how many items were deleted in each mailbox? With Mailbox Management in Exchange 2003, we were able to get a nice, detailed report (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997327%28EXCHG.65%29.aspx). I've opened a case with MS and the tech referred me to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb310790.aspx, which doesn't really do what I'm asking for, and I don't like the fact that it uses PerfMon. This is another nice feature from Exchange 2003 that MS seems to have taken away (why???). Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the response, but I need a report of how many items were deleted from each mailbox, by the retention policy. Getting the size of deleted items won't show me that.

As my search and test, It seems Exchange 2010 don’t have the same report as Exchange 2003. But you could view the Performance Counters for Messaging Records Management, such as: a. Mailboxes Processed b. Items Deleted but Recoverable c. Items Subject to Retention Policy d. TotalSizeItemsExpired - Size of Items subject to Retention Policy (In Bytes) More information: Performance Counters for Messaging Records Management You could follow the below article to view the performance counters. Hi, please try this command to run prior and after policy is applied and the difference is what you need. It works for every folder, but you should change FolderScope part of the command. get-mailbox -resultsize unlimited | select displayname,alias,distinguishedname,@{name="OutBox items";expression={(get-mailboxfolderstatistics $_ -folderscope ‚OutBox‘ | select itemsinfolder, foldersize)}} | export-csv R:\Outboxcount.csv -encoding unicode -delimiter „;“ RegardsZbynk

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it would work, although it could take a while to run since it has to check every mailbox and mailbox folder. Too bad MS took out a very useful feature and we have to figure out ways to get similar functionality.
