Messages for some users stuck on retry in local queue
We recently had to restore SBS 2003 to newhardware and all seems to have gone fine except. We have several mailboxes were the incoming mail only gets as far as the local queue then it just sits there on retry, seems a bit intermittent on a couple of mailboxes but on at least 2 nothing is getting delivered, and others seem to be working fine. The message tracking center shows SMTP: meesage scheduled to retry local delivery Does anyone have any ideas, I have run analyzer and troubleshooter assist but nothing of much help, troubleshooter did say their was a problem delivering but not what the problem was or how to fix it, just said messages still in queue. I'm currently IT Administrator at a company running SBS 2003 (no service packs) and Exchange 2003 SP 1. Our Active Directory became corrupt, that problem was resolved, but when we got it back up, we have this re-occuring problem. Troubleshooter won't tell me anything, Microsoft refuses to help without shelling out another $250 for a second trouble ticket (I feel it is directly related to the Active Directory becoming corrupt). Please, if anyone has any answers, respond. My boss (Co-owner of the company) is becoming quite irate that his e-mails are not coming through, we need this problem fixed as soon as possible.

I found some posts that suggested Server 2003 SP2 can corrupt mailboxs in exchange. But you dont have any SBS SPs but do you have any server SPs. Anyway I fixed mine by using exmerge to export the current mailbox to a pst file, deleted the mailbox that wasnt working via exchange tasks then recreated it and re imported the mail back from the pst file, bit long winded but it worked. As with your problem everything looked fine and mail was coming in it just never reached the mailbox. Hope thats a help

I am in exactly the same situation as this. I restored SBS 2003 to new hardware and have 2 users that are not recieving mail, the messages are all backing up in the local delivery queue. Did you ever resolve this issue? Thanks, Paul

I'm having a slightly different issue;A lot of mail is getting stuck in the local delivery queue with "retry" status, but in our case it doesn't seem to be user mailbox related.I have email from and to multiple different people getting stuck, but some messages seem to go through. Funny thing is it's consistent; certain client emails from other organizations Always get stuck while Hotmail test emails Always go through. This seems to apply to all users and all senders. It just started happening on Friday when we installed the latest updates from MS. Given the dates in this thread is it possible that this is a new issue??Anyone else seeing this??T.

Hi everyone I too have restored my SBS 2003 R2 to a new HD. Everything was OK for about half a day then messages get stuck in the local queue and status is in contant retry. I've been through eseutil /mh - all is consistant; but I get a Jet err when try a soft repair (eseutil /r) & isinteg can't find the server !!! even though I'm running the command on the server & specifying its name as reported by nbtstat -n. Both mailbox store & public folder store mount & dis-mount OK. About to try the exmerge to remake the mailbox as described eariler in the thread - but I'm concerned about loosing the messages in the queue. Will I get them when I make a new mailbox or are they lost forever? Nigel
