Message tracking fails with 'The server software doesn't support the type of search requested' for only a SINGLE user in org
Ok this is a weird one. Message tracking works fine for all my users except for one where I get the above message. I've tried stopping/restarting the transport services and renaming the tracking log but no luck. Any ideas?

Hi, The problem is caused by a hard limit on a size of a LogSearch request that Powershell issues against MSExchangeTransportLogSearch.exe service. This limit is 32Kb. That is product issue and PG are still working on this issue. Thanks Allen

Dear Allen, I have exactly the same behaviour. Thanks a lot for your answer. Does PG means Programming Guys? Do You know about a time horizon when the issue will be treated? Is there a workaround other than using findstr on the message tracking files? Thanks Claus PS: sorry about my plain english

Hi Allen,I have this issue and can find nothing else on the Internet for this Message Tracking Center failure. I have 20,000+ mailboxes and most work in the MTC however there are ones that never do.You stated a hard limit which I can believe...but I am running the most updated version (Exchange 2007 SP2 + UR2). Was this ever fixed by "PG"? I may have to call premier but what I have seems to be this explanation.Thx, Mike

Updated and resolved for my situation:I called MS Premier and this is now resolved for my issue with a workaround. The technician is going to submit a bug fix but basically he found another bug ticket from summer 2009 that stated "if the mailbox has more than 49 proxy addresses entered within the Email addresses tab the search command will fail".We re-tested a few failed search mailboxes by removing unnecessary proxy addresses from that tab the searches worked fine.Hope this helps others.Mike

Mike This resolved the issue I was having as well - the recipient I was trying to track for had a ton of extra smtp addresses that were not needed. Removing them fixed the issue.
