Message tracking and BCC recipients
An email was sent yesterday by user1@domain.com to a bunch of people. HR want to know which of these people were BCC'd in the email and which were in the normal CC:/TO: field. I guess I can run get-messagetrackinglog but how can I differenciate between BCC, CC and TO recipients? Applies to Exchange 2007 Sp2.

Couldn't you simply open the user's mailbox and look at the item in the Sent Items folder?Tony www.activedir.org blog:www.open-a-socket.com

As far as I know, not possible with MT and smtp logging. In your case as the message has been already sent, check the message in the sent items of the users Or export that message out via the shell and check if you cant login as the user. Or use MFCMAPI and look at the msg properties, theasiet is point 2 Sukh

Since its a single message track, you can follow Tony's choice. As sukh informed there in no option to track the email for your condition in MT :(

Hi, Message track log cannot do that. You can simply access that mailbox to see the information if the message didn't deleted by user. Sometime we need record the message communication in the company just like in this case. That's why Exchange provides a new feature called "journaling". http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998649.aspxPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi Are we saying that Message tracking cannot differenciate between To/BCC/CC recipients or that it will not show BCC recipients at all?

Message tracking doesn't know how the recipient is specified in the email, it only knows the set of addresses to which the message was sent. Whether the sender intended the recipients to see the complete set of recipients isn't important from the perspective of tracking the delivery of that message. All recipients are discoverable in the message tracking log. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
