Message Tracking in Exchange 2007
Hi Folks,I have a strange thing happening with one of my exchange accounts. We have email@test.com forwarding to a distribution list called distro@test.com as well as keeping a copy of the message in it's own mailbox (I know this is abnormal, but our whole email set up is abnormal). The email@test.com account misses messages every once in a while while the members of the distribution group receive the message. I have checked the logs for the email@test.com account and they show that the message has been 'queued for delivery' but they never get to the email@test.commailbox. Where else can i check to see what happens to these messages?ThanksColin

Thanks Mumin,I have used the message tracker (sorry, that's what i meant by logs) and it shows the message going to email@test.com. The problem is that the message never actually gets to the mailbox and the message tracker doesn't show what actually happend to the message (if the system deleted it etc.). So i was wondering if there is another way to track this. Colin

What exactly do you see in the message tracker or from the command line? I find the command line tracking a bit easier to figure out. You should be looking for a event id of "Deliver". If its not in the "inbox" i'd start looking at spam or rules.-alex

Alex/Lasse,The message tracker does show the message getting to the mailbox with the 'Deliver' event ID. I don't see the message in OWA or outlook. The other recipients get the message so i don't think it could be a SPAM setting....where can i check to see that? Thanks AgainColin

Hi Colin There are some suggestions for you. 1. Please make sure the mail is really sent to email@test.com by check up the tracking log. How to use the command in EMS to get the tracking logs, you can refer to below links: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676348.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997573.aspx 2. If you make sure the logs shows nothing wrong during the message delivered course, the problem may be caused by the client. So, please make sure that whether the user downloads the mail from the server or not when he/she receive mail, otherwise you may not find the mail by OWA. 3. At the client end, you can use "Recover Deleted Items" to check up the deleted mail, make sure it is not deleted by the users mistake. You can refer to below link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886205 4. Please make sure the users outlook rule did not delete the specified mail. You can export all the rules for backup, and then delete all rules to check up for a long time. You can use mfcmapi.exe. You can download it from below link: http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com/ 5. If all the steps is fail to find out reason of the issue, you can disable the users Mailbox features except OWA. The method will help you fix the issue is on server or on client. Then, we can do further research regarding your issue. Hope those useful for you!
