Message Tracking
Is there a way to tell the "time" in which an e-mail message has been marked as read in Outlook? Maybe some tracking on the exchange server?? I'm not referring to when the message was delivered, but rather when it has been read. Thanks!

You can mark this on the message itself that when a user reads the message a message is sent to the originator. But unfortunately this feature can be turned of at the recipient, outlook 2003 and 2007 ask the user if they want to send a message read receipt. I don't think you have a way to be absolutely sure Deli

I don't know of any way to track this centrally. One of the difficulties is that Outlook clients can operate in off-line mode. It can be hours, days or weeks before any information about the read/unread status of message is passed back from the client to the Exchange server. You also have the issue of messages being deleted or moved to PSTs before they are read. Tony

Using Group Policy, you can force your Outlook clients to automatically respond to all read receipts. We push out the following registry key which forces this option to on: hkey_current_user\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Options\Mail"Receipt Response" = REG_DWORD 0x0 Note: 10.0 is for Outlook XP/2002. You would have to change this appropriately.

Offline users will still have the option to delete the read receipt from their Outbox before they next go on-line. Tony
