Maximum no. of GALs and ALs in Exchange 2007.?
Hi, I want to know about the maximum no. of GALs and ALs in Exchange 2007. For that I googled and found this Microsoft gives the theoretical limit about number of GAL/Address List in organization is 1300 but I feel nobody would have tired that. ref: http://exchangeshare.wordpress.com/2008/04/05/multiple-global-address-list-gal-in-exchange-2007/ Can anybody confirm it ? Does it mean that we can create 1300 GALs and 1300 ALs in E2k7 or 650 GALs and 650 ALs (Tot 1300) ? Regards, Laeeq Qazi

Well, this limit comes from the number of values can be stored into any multivalued AD attribute, which is 800 in Windows 2000 forest and 1300 in Windows 2003 forest so it is total (GAL + AL) which are stored into certain AD or Exchange attribures in any organization. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914036Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA |MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi, Thanx Amit for your reply. Does this limit includes OAB or just AL+GAL ? Is there any way to extend this limit for Exchange 2007 ? Regards,Laeeq Qazi

Yes it does include OAB as well. However no suitable documentary proof is available to the best of my knowledge. MMilind Naphade | MCTS:M | http://www.msexchangegeek.com

I think there isn't any way to extend it since this is AD limit on values of non-linked multivalued attributes in Windows 2003 forest. I am not sure (couldn't find either) about that limit in Windows 2008 but we may try in AD forum to get the answer from some AD experts.Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA |MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
