Maximum database size, Server 2007 Enterprise
We upgraded from Exchange Server 2000 (Standard, or whatever they call the non-enterprise version) to Server 2007 Enterprise. I told some heavy e-mail savers to put all their old mail back on the server. At some point, it failed, and I had them move the mail back to .pst files. Now the application log, event 1221, shows 700+ megabytes left in the database, and the database size is 15+ gigabytes. This is the same size limit as the old database.I need to find out how to get around the apparent 16GB limitation. Thanks to whomever can help.--Milton

Hi, EventID 1221 tells you how much whitespace there is in the database, it's caused by online defragmentation which occurs during the online maintenance period. Your database should be ok, when the event 1221 shows considerable whitespace you could run on offline defragmentation to reclaim the whitespace. More info: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998863.aspx Both the Exchange 2007 standard and enterprise edition do not have a database size limitation although the database engine and the ntfs file system will theoreticaly linit the database to 16 TB. May I suggest you to move all users from current database to newly create database, the movement will left the fragment in old database, only value data to new database. You can then ensure that database is 100% healthy.

A certain amount of fragmentation will always occur, it's not a bad thing. On the site of the Exchange team you can find an excellent article on the do's and don'ts. http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2004/07/08/177574.aspx
