Manually remove a Mailbox Server from Exchange 2010 Environment
We have just installed another mailbox server role in the org and decided that it was not needed. The hardware was wiped out so I cannot uninstall it. How do I manually remove it? Thanks JonathanF-

You can remove the entry in Active Directory for the orphaned server. Using ADSIEdit, navigate to: Configuration -> Services -> Microsoft Exchange -> (Your Exchange Org) -> Administrative Groups -> Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) -> Servers Delete the msExchExchangeServer object corresponding to the removed server.

Hiya, Regarding Neil's suggestion I would suggest you consider carefully before removing the Exchange Server using Adsiedit; it is an unsupported way of removing an Exchange Server. The only official way to remove the Exchange Server would be to perform a Recovery Mode installation after reset of the computer account and then uninstall Exchange Server the normal way. This should ensure that all references to the server are correctly removed and dependancies such as Databases are checked before removal. I would suggest you can try to install exchange on another computer with /restore parm, and then uninstall it. It will clean the record for you.

Thanks for the input, I went ahead and used ADSIEdit to remove the server, so far so good. Thanks, JonathanF-
