Manually creating autodiscover.xml file for desktops
I am looking for an example of an autodiscover.xml file that I can deploy to desktops. Our company is in a cross-forest move scenario and autodiscover is not playing nice. I looked at the following blog http://www.exchange-genie.com/2007/07/exchange-2007-autodiscover-service-part-1/ which has the part I am looking for, but the example is not there anymore. The Autodiscover.xml file that resides in IIS contains only the following so its not serving as an example: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Autodiscover> <!-- This is a placeholder file --> </Autodiscover>

If you want to turn off Autodiscover:How do I turn off Autodiscover?http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchangesvrclients/thread/4a14a13c-7bb9-42b9-b552-1ebaf5574091 We do also a lot of migrations and considered the solution above, but ended up with the method belowAutodiscover SCP on account foresthttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrclients/thread/b14aaffd-9572-42d3-ae78-c00d48c9c6d1 MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M | Small Business Specialist

Forest A is a Exchange 2003 forest and Forest B is an Exchange 2007 forest. A oneway trust where Forest A trusts Forest B. I just need the autodiscover file on the desktops until the desktop is moved to Forest B.

In order to come up with a solution, some more information is needed (we've been through several scenarios). So, Forest A and Forest B use the same primary SMTP address, such as user@domain.comMailboxes created in Forest B are linked mailboxes, so forest B is a resource domain? All users authenticate with forest A?Autodiscover is working on the inside in forest B, and on the Internet, with say autodiscover.domain.com?Autodiscover is not working on the inside in forest A (SCP)?MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M | Small Business Specialist

Forest A and Forest B are two separate companies with separate SMTP extensions. Forest A users are migrating to Forest B but at this moment only user accounts and mailboxes are being migrated. Migrated users log into Forest B with their migrated credentials and everything works as expected. Outlook 2007 users unfortunately have an issue with AutoDiscover not resolving due to the fact the the workstation is still part of Forest A. AutoDiscover is working completely for users in Forest B internally and we don't publish AutoDiscover externally. There is no SCP in forest A because there is no Exchange 2007. Could I get an example AutoDiscover.xml file to deploy to desktops so that migrated users can still use Outlook 2007 completely until the workstation is migrated.

Sorry for the delayed answer. Xmas and so on. Take a look at section three:There are 4 ways to get autodiscover to function:1. Set the SCP to the url of the autodiscover server (this will work for domain joined machines)2. DNS/HTTP3. Deploy an Xml file to the users machine which also requires registry changes on the client4. DNS SRV records (requires Outlook 2007 SP1) http://www.exchange-genie.com/2007/07/exchange-2007-autodiscover-service-part-1/MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M | Small Business Specialist
