Managing Exchange Server 2007 using a Windows XP workstation (cannot install)
Again, this is NOT a server.... This is a Windows XP machine. I only want to use the EMC on Windows XP to look at the Exchange server settings such as distribution groups. Exchange is already setup and working properly, I am NOT trying to install/setup Exchange! I am trying to install the management tools on XP and the OP shows the error received on XP.

According to: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=11876, I can install management tools on XP... I followed the steps at: http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/managing-exchange-server-2007-using-windows-xp-workstation.html but cannot make it past step 2 "Introduction". I get this error message: "The Exchange organization name is invalid. Message: '{335A1087-5131-4D45BE-3C6C7F76F5EC} is not a valid value for Organization Name. The value must not contain any of '~', '`', '!', '@', '#', '$', '%', '^', '&', '*', '(', ')', '_', '+', '{', '}', '[', ']', '|', '\', ':', ';', '"', ''', '<', '>', ',', '.', '?', '/' " The funny thing is, when I run setup.exe as the local computer admin, I can get all the way to the readiness check- but then it fails because it cannot contact the domain (duh)! My network domain account has admin rights locally but not domain admin or exchange admin rights. I do have all the prerequisites installed. All the other search results to this error message refer to server install related things such as forestprep issues. However, this is not a server, so those fixes don't apply here! I just want to use the EMC to browse things such as distribution group membership since I'm not seeing that info in Active Directory Users and Computers.

Hi, Even though you want to install management tools on XP, you still need to communicate with AD and Exchange Server. If convenience, please verify those problems are not in your environment. Thanks.Best Regards!

Hi, You cannot use the GUID name as the org name when running exchange 2007 setup. Please change it to something valid, such as "First Organization" Have you install previous Exchange version in your exvironment? If you have, -- Using E2K3 setup media run Setup.exe /removeorg, so that container will get removed from AD Configuration Naming Context. -- Then run E2K7 setup.com /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:<xxxx> Best Regards!
