Malware Transport Agent - Should I enable it on Every MailboxServer?

Hello There,

I tried to found an answer to this question but cannot found it anywhere on Technet and also on the Exchange Books that i Have.

In Exchange 2013, should I Enable the AntiMalware Transport Agent on EVERY Mailbox Server? Since mail-flow is based on Delivery Groups (Dags and AD Sites) and always beetween Mailbox Servers through SMTP protocol, i guess that the most secure way to deal with that is to enable it on every MailboxServer in the Organization.

Thanks!

Hi,

You may disable Exchange 2013 malware filtering if you are using another product for malware filtering. When malware filtering is disabled, the Exchange malware agent is unhooked and not running, and engine updates are not kept up-to-date.

For more detailed information, you can refer to the below link :

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. I understand that I can disable or bypass the antimalware transport agent, but what I really need to know is if I should keep it enabled on all my Mailbox Servers if I dont have any other malware solution in place. In a scenario, for example, where Edge Transport is in place, I understand that I need it to be enabled on the Mailbox Server subscribed to the Edge Server. I also think that I need to enable it on every Mailbox Server on the Organization, since a User can create a message anywhere on my On-Premises network which could have a Malware code...

Hi,

Based on my knowledge,  I suggest you can keep it enabled on your Mailbox Servers if you have not any other malware solution.
