Make Custom Attribute show up in Global Address List
It has been requested of me by my Department Head to make a Global Address List which would list the users by the department that they are in. We run a Windows 2003 R2 Active Directory Enviroment using Exchange 2003 Enterprise Edition. What he would like to see is the users listed by their departments first in the GAL: For Example:Adjusters - User Name 1Adjusters - User Name 2Counsel - User Name 1Counsel - User Name 2MIS - User Name 1MIS - User Name 2and so on.These Department names are the names of the OU's that the users belong to in AD - but I think there is no way to actually use the OU name in the GAL since I don't believe exchange can do that, so I have made the Exchange CustomAttribute1 = to the Department name the user is in. I can make a list using that CustomAttribute1 as the filter (if it has a value put it in the list), but the problem is how can I make that Attribute actually appear in the GAL as I listed in the example above?I did find a sort of workaround which will work, but requires me to actually change the DisplayName of the user to match what I have above, but that causes issues elswhere in our network, so is not a viable solution in our situation. I cannot believe that there is no way to implement this - can anyone help me out? Thanks very much to anyone who may spend some time to work on this or to respond to my post - I do appreciate your time.

From Exchange Server2003 ESM, under the Recipients object, click Details Templates and Address Templates. Customizing the Details Templates http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997167.aspx We can use ADSI Edit Tool to Edit Active Directory Attributes, Using ADSI Edit to Edit Active Directory Attributes http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124152(EXCHG.65).aspx Hope it helps.
