Major confused, maybe Autodiscover issue.
I been struggle with this for awhile, read alot of whitepapers and forum threads. I cant really put the finger on what the problem is, but I think it is autodiscover that isn't work as it should. Please assist if you have a thought about this. Windows 2003 domain, whith exch2003 and exch2007 coexist. But, exchange 2003 has no mailboxes, and public folders is moved to exch2007. Exch2003 services are not running, the server thoughisn't uninstalled yet. We have a local domain, AAA.se and the external, BBB.se. We running ourDNS servers inhousefor both these domains, We put up a A record fr autodiscover.BBB.se, it is the external pointer. We use outlook 2007. The problem is, the out of office and free/busy work sometimes and sometimes it cant find the server. From owa it works all the time. The thing that it works, and suddenly it wont work is really confusing. I run outlook "Test E-mail AutoConfiguration" and see maybesome problems. In the Availability server URL, it display https://mail1.aaa.se/EWS/Exchange.asmx , but when I try to browse it, it cant display it. When the out of office and free/busy works, and I try to reach this page, it prompt med for user credentials, and then I can see it. If I choose the log tab I can see this Attempting URL https://mail1.AAA.se/Autodiscover/autodiscoverxml found through SCP Autodiscover tohttps://mail1.AAA.se/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting Autodiscover tohttps://mail1.AAA.se/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml FAILED (0x800C8203) Autodiscover tohttps://BBB.se/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting Autodiscover tohttps://BBB.se/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml FAILED (0x800C8203) Autodiscover tohttps://autodiscover.BBB.se/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting Autodiscover tohttps://autodiscover.BBB.se/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml succeeded (0x00000000) I dont know if this is a problem, cause it always succeed on the last one. Thanks for looking through this.

Hi, The error code 0x800C8203 means ERROR_INTERNET_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED. It seems to be a DNS related issue. I suggest that we attempt the following method to troubleshoot the issue: 1. Please ping the mail1.AAA.se when the issue is encountered on the Client. Can you ping mail1.AAA.se successfully? 2. If you can ping the mail1.AAA.se on the client successfully, please use Internet Explorer to access the following link https://mail1.AAA.se/Autodiscover/autodiscoverxml. Can you see the page similar to the following after typing user name and password <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> - <Autodiscover xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/responseschema/2006"> - <Response> - <Error Time="10:04:51.2274192" Id="1328151800"> <ErrorCode>600</ErrorCode> <Message>Invalid Request</Message> <DebugData /> </Error> </Response> </Autodiscover> If you cannot access the above URL, please attempt to access it through IP Address such as: https://<CAS IP Address>/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml 3. Please also run the test-outlookwebserivces |fl on the CAS server when the clients cannot access the internal Autodiscover URL and post the result here Mike

THANKS. I solved it!! The problem was that the mailserver has two nics, and whilemails comes in on one of them, and thatwas the nicIusedwhen createdthe autodiscoverA record, it was the other nic that have been set access to iis default site.So when I set both nic to have access in iis it works excelent. Simply tcp/ip troubleshooting, but I just couldnt figure it out, thanks for this! If you cannot access the above URL, please attempt to access it through IP Address such as: https://<CAS IP Address>/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml The reason it works sometime were probably that the name resulotion had been cached in my computer, and then it wont bother asking the dns server... I have a similiar issue that I have been strugling with. My clients are outlook 2007 and everything works besides Free/Busy scheduling and Out of Office from the client. They both work from OWA. The Autodiscover tests fail. i am able to browse to https://exchange.domain.ca/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml and I get the same as you posted above. However when I go to the same withOUT the httpS but rather http I get This website requires you to log in which may be the reason for the error mentioned below.I ran the test-outlookwebservices |fl and the last 2 results were errors as follows:ID 1013Type ErrorMessage When contacting http://exchange/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml received the error The remote server retrned an error: <403> ForbiddenID 1006Type ErrorMessage The Autodiscover service could not be contacted.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

0x800C8203 is a DNS problem. Check all of your DNS entries. My scenario: Out of office would say "Server not found" Could not view 'Free / Busy' info for other users when setting up meetings. I'm using Server 2008 x64, Exchange 2007, & Outlook 2007 email clients. Server 2003 DC's. Network clients are mixed XP SP3 / Windows 7. Out of office works properly when using OWA. My cert is a Godaddy UCC cert. Ping mail.mydomain.com = IPv4 replies Ping server.mydomain.com = IPv6 replies Ping autodiscover.mydomain.com = IPv4 replies I found entries in DNS for AAAA IPv6 pointing to my Exchange box. I deleted the record & created a new (Host) record for my Exchange box. After the new entry was pushed out, pinging server.mydomain.com replied with IPv4. Out of Office works & Free / Busy works now also. I hope this helps someone! Tom

Tom, Much appreciated as this is helping to narrow down the area of concern. My question is when you're using '.local' setup and you have an item such as 'myserver.domain.local' with a server using two nics for seperate internal and external traffic. Would it then be appropriate that the external nic be set for the server, if both were set then it would be an erratic behaviour i would take it. With AD using the internal, what do you feel would be the correct way to setup the DNS A records accordingly? I believe this is where the confusion is between the nics, just trying to sort out the best approach. Thanks, Chad
