Mailboxes exist but can't be accessed by EMC or OWA
Exchange 2010. I can use the management shell to examine the mailbox database - there are about 40 mailboxes. However EMC shows "There are no items to show in this view" when asked to list mailboxes. Outlook clients and OWA can't connect to mailboxes (message "The item you tried to access no longer exists" when connecting from OWA). I inherited this Exchange organisation, so I can't answer for how it was configured. There are 2 servers, but the other server just has empty mailboxes. The main Exchange server was working fine until I started to uninstall Exchange from the other server. On observing this problem on the main server, I restored the second server, but that's had no effect. Not sure if it's relevant, but this error occurs on opening the management shell on the main Exchange server: VERBOSE: Connecting to exchange1.domain.com [exchange.domain.com] Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot process the request. It cannot determine the content type of the HTTP response from the destination computer. The content type is absent or invalid. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic. + CategoryInfo : OpenError: (System.Manageme....RemoteRunspace:RemoteRunspace) [], PSRemotingTransportException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PSSessionOpenFailed VERBOSE: Connecting to exchange2.domain.com VERBOSE: Connected to exchange2.domain.com. ... where exchange1 is the main server and exchange2 is the second. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

How did you restore this other server? For some reason it would appear that there is a dependency on the other server for management tasks. That could be an indication that the server you consider to be the "main" server has an issue with its configuration. Start by running the Best Practises Analyser from the toolbox. See if that flags anything of interest. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

Exchange2 was running on a VM. I reverted it to the snapshot I took immediately before starting the uninstall. ExBPA: Connectivity test returns informational messages only, for both servers. Permissions check when first run indicated that it couldn't contact a domain controller. I changed the domain controller in EMC on both servers and restarted. No errors for this report now. Health check: Error "Unrecognised Exchange Signature", which seems to be a bug. Warning "DNS 'Host' record appears to be missing" for Exchange2. The host record is in fact in DNS on the domain controller. Warning "Network interface driver file is more than two years old" for Exchange1. This is the most recent driver. Warning "Processor performance" for Exchange1.

I have started rebuilding the servers from the ground up and will restore the mailboxes to a fresh database. Thanks for the input.
