Mailbox snapshots
I have a single forest single domain Windows Server 2003 EE environment. I have a single Exchange 2003 EE server. I need to take snapshots of 4 users mailboxes for a litigation hold. Are there any tools to do this per individual mailboxes or in System Manager? I would like to dump these snapshots to an external storage device.

For Exchange 2003 the only options are to backup the mailbox level or to use the ExMerge utility. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=429163ec-dcdf-47dc-96da-1c12d67327d5&displaylang=enTim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Lync 2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington

Agree with Tim, however; ExMerge only supports the ANSI PST Format which has a 2GB limit ExMerge will not warn you if a PST goes over 2GB, it will just corrupt the PST and you won’t know it until you try to open it ANSI PST's actually start to degrade at about 1.8GB so I would not go over that limit in order to ensure the data is recoverable Here is an article on how to script the creation of overflow PST's if you reach the 2GB limit http://theessentialexchange.com/blogs/michael/archive/2009/10/16/exporting-mailboxes-larger-than-2-gb-on-an-exchange-server.aspx Alternatively, you can look at 3rd party tools like Lucid8's DigiScope that can do what you are looking for and much more http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com
