Mailbox size and Mailbox rights
Hello, 1. In exchange 2007, it seems the default mailbox limitation for each user is 2GB. I am wondering if this is too much. There are around 80 users altogether. I am afraid such big user mailbox will cause problems for exchange server, e.g. mail lost? slow down? latency? 2. When configure outlook, i notice that with domain admin account, could not access other user's mailbox. I could do so before in the other company with exchange 2003. i checked AD, in security tab of the user property, domain admin has the full right. anyone has idea? thanks a lot! Regards, Lily

1. Well, that's actually item count in a folder which matter on performance, but not mailbox size. However if you are using Outlook 2007 SP1 +February 2009 cumulative update or Outlook 2007 SP2 then OST sizing guidance and item count in a folder have changed to 5GB and 50,000 items respectively... Domain Admins have by default full mailbox access "Deny" and best practice is to use a plain domain user account with full mailbox access permission to access mailboxes. Hi Lili, Looks like you couldn't open Amit's blog... :) I guess maybe all pages live in wordpress.com is unavailable in China mainland. I just searched your thread and found you may be from China. I pasted some key point in that article for your reference: Lets say, I need to give access to open all the mailboxes of a server ESS-Exch702 to a user Auditor. We can give Receive-As permission on all the mailbox databases of a server with blow command. Get-MailboxDatabase -Server ESS-Exch702 | Add-ADPermission -User Auditor -ExtendedRights Receive-As Note: The configuration change does not take effect until store cache is refreshed, which is by default two hours interval or for immediate effect we can restart Exchange Information Store service. After giving Receive-As permission to Auditor on ESS-Exch702 server, it can open all the mailboxes which are available on it. If you want to give access to open all the mailboxes of just a database then you can run below command. Get-MailboxDatabase -Identity Name Of Database | Add-ADPermission -User Auditor -ExtendedRights Receive-As You can not Send As a mail on behalf of mailbox even though you have Full Mailbox access or Receive As permission and for that you need to assign Send As permission. Thanks, Elvis

If that is the case (as Elvis said), can you check opening google cache copy? http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:L38_BnqdHF8J:exchangeshare.wordpress.com/2008/09/05/faq-access-on-all-the-mailboxes-of-a-server-exchange-2007/+Access+on+All+the+Mailboxes+of+a+Server&cd=6&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=usAmit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi, Amit: I could not open that google cache copy either. That is fine, Elvis helped me to get the content there. Get-MailboxDatabase -Server ESS-Exch702 | Add-ADPermission -User Auditor -ExtendedRights Receive-As Another question is, how to cancel the Receive-As permission on all the mailbox databases thanks.
