Mailbox attempting forward to deleted Mail Contact
I had a mailbox configured to forward mail to a Mail Contact (external address). I deleted the contact but now the mailbox attempts to forward each mail message to the deleted contact throwing an error (... recipient not in recipient list ...) that's received
by the user. The Exchange Management UI shows that forwarding is off. I've tried the following:
Adding forwarding to a new address. Then removing it.:
This will forward to the new address when it's added, and revert to the deleted contact when it's removed.
Get a list of mailboxes currently forwarded (Get-Mailbox | Where {$_.ForwardingAddress -ne $null} | Select Name, ForwardingAddress, DeliverToMailboxAndForward)
Target mailbox does not appear
Reset the forwarding options in powershell
No effect
We are also running a BES server if that makes any difference however the errors are being generated by exchange.
Any thoughts?

I would look for any Outlook rules.
If you can't see any, export any existing ones and start Outlook with the /cleanrules switch and see if that cleans it up.

Thanks AndyD, There was a rule to forward to the mail contact. I deleted it and it works. Do you know if this was added by exchange? It seems unlikely but I was curious.
